For existing HOA’s one of the main opportunities to “green up” is in the realm of landscaping. Many (most) HOAs spend a significant amount of their operational budget on the basic landscaping services of mowing, blowing, and weed control which typically translates not only as a major expense but a lot of associated pollution (air, water, noise) and health hazards from pesticides.

Since 2020, I have served as a member of the HOA board of directors where I have lived since 2016. Together with fellow neighbors, we have made changes to improve the health and sustainability of our community by shifting to more sustainable approaches to landscaping.

I will share more about my/our learnings from these efforts in the future but for now, I would like to share a few slides from an October 2023 community education event that highlights some of the changes we have made over the last few years.
